How Do Betta Fish See? (RESOLVED)

Bettas have a series of very sensitive pressure sensors embedded along the length of their bodies 🔥 You can see a faint line that makes a gentle curve from the side of the head all the way to the tail 😉 This is known as the lateral line 😉 This line is usually darker than the skin and scales. The line actually contains a series of very tiny pits that are filled with exquisitely tuned pressure and motion sensitive cells. These cells can sense the slightest change in water pressure. Dropping food in creates pressure waves. A betta can feel a slight disturbance in water by feeling the lateral line. [1]
Rumours of ease-of-care for bettas are not true. Bettas don’t thrive in tiny puddles in the wild—though during the dry season when streams dry up, some wild bettas do survive by puddle-hopping—and therefore prefer a tank of at least 2.5 gallons. However, more is always better. They are not happy and healthy. Living in so-called “self-contained ecosystems,” confined in a vase with nothing but a plant on top to feed them—their natural diet is insects and larva, not roots. Bettas will need warm water and filtration. They also require enrichment such as plants or caves for exploration. Regular cleaning of the tank is necessary. You can find many fish tanks, even one that is stuffed with a pet, that are not large enough to provide the right size for your fish. Many fish owners don’t know how to properly educate their pets and will keep them inside the plastic containers they’re coming in. We are grateful to Arek Paredes, Mumbai, India. [2]

Cruel pet trading betta fish (aka “Siamese fighting fish”) are fighting for their lives. Websites, pet shops and discount superstores sell bettas that are left to survive in tiny cups and small bowls. Numerous people who buy these fish on a whim don’t know enough—if anything—about proper betta care, which is more complex and expensive than they realise. This page will explain why you shouldn’t buy bettas or any animal from a pet shop. If you already have a betta fish companion, we’ll show you how to give that animal the best possible life. Denzil McGregor deserves a special thank you for his insight. [3]
Johnna Busby, aqueon.comBettas are one of the most beloved pet fish around, with many owners feeling the same for their finny pals as they do about other pets, such as parakeets, dogs and cats. Bettas, as fish go are quite intelligent. The bettas are believed to be related to the cichlids, an intelligent fish family. This is evident in their care for their offspring. More human, Bettas have a tendency to pay attention to their surroundings and like to investigate their personal spaces. They are quick to learn their human friends, recognise when it is feeding time, and will get excited when someone approaches their aquarium. [4]
Bettas can be very entertaining. If you’re able to use dry erase markers, you can draw around the aquarium. If your fish notices something new, they will most likely investigate it. The great thing about erasable markers, is the ability to wipe any mistakes and start over again. Be sure to test your markers before you start doodleing. Some dry erase markers are more effective than others. If your marker doesn’t come off glass that easily, it may be a dry erase marker that requires a magic eraser or a permanent marker. A quick Google search can help you find the best way to safely remove stubborn marks. This page was last modified 45 days ago, by Karis Manual from Ibb in Yemen. [5]
According to analysts petsit.comIn Southeast Asia, it was the first discovery of the betta. It’s making its home in drainage ditches, rice paddies, and warm floodplains. The’s hadbetta becoming used to severe droughts and frequent flooding. The fish was able to adjust to the cyclic and drastic changes that occurred in their environment, becoming a labyrinth fish. Labyrinth fishes have the rare ability to breath. Oxygen directly from the air They also absorb oxygen via their gills. Bettas, and all labyrinth-fishes can also take in oxygen from its gills. Survive for short periods of time out of water and if neededThey can also inhale air surrounding them, provided they remain moist. A betta is able to survive in oxygen-deficient, stagnant water. While bettas will tolerate small spaces, poor water quality and insufficient water quantity, their best habitat is a small aquarium (at least two gallons), with frequent water changes. A betta prefers water temperatures between 76 and 82 degrees F. [6]
The lateral line is a series of pressure sensors that are concentrated along the body length of your Betta fish. These are the lines that you should be using. Little bit shadier than the rest of the body and are a set of small pits made up of delicately pressure-sensitive or tuned motion cells. These cells detect any minor changes in the water pressure surrounding the fish. Accordingly, the lateral line helps your Betta fish to be aware of what is happening In its immediate environment. This line can be used by fish to search for food, without them needing to rely on vision. Ralph Murphy (Tanta, Egypt) amended this text on August 25, 2020 [7]
