Of course, there’s a ton to consider when searching for the best maternity fashion. You’ll need to take sizing, budget, comfort and style into account. Most maternity stores recommend selecting your pre-pregnancy dress size, but it’s worth checking each individual brand’s sizing guideline and reading customer reviews before making a purchase. When it comes to practicality and comfort, you’ll want to opt for soft, stretchy items that will grow with your changing body. There are no limitations in terms of style, but classic A-line dresses, adjustable wrap tops and garments with ruching work particularly well during all three trimesters—and beyond. While you’re figuring out your new figure there is always the option to rent, not buy. Especially if you’re not looking to downgrade your dressdrobe just because you have a baby in tow. ‘After having my son none of the clothes I owned feltfelt like clothing I would normally wear yet I still needed loose fitting clothes that I could breastfeed in and styles that wouldn’t rub against my c-section scar,’ shares Lyndsay Mason, founder of postnatal fashion rental company For The Creators. ‘My maternity clothes were stretched and baggy but I resented spending more money on clothing I wouldn’t be wearing for a long period of time.’ Out of this frustration her rental service for mums was born. You can now borrow trendy dresses, button-through tops, and dungarees from non-maternity brands. This is still possible for those with bumps or breastfeeding. Borrow for 7, 14 or 21 days when Pj’s, leggings and oversized jumpers aren’t your vibe. You can also get a replacement service in case your rental does not fit. This was modified by Judy V. Marian Reyna says at, I’ve worked through all of my pregnancies so I’ve needed a solid wardrobe that includes office-appropriate outfits as well as fancier pieces for events and casual looks for weekends — though this pregnancy I’m had having had less in person events and been in the office less due to the pandemic. Finding things to wear throughout my pregnancies hasn’t always been easy, so I compiled a pretty solid list of places to shop for maternity clothes. But because I don’t like to buy a lot of “maternity clothes”, I’ve included brands that aren’t “maternity” per se but have roomy pieces that you can wear throughout your pregnancy and after, which is ideal imo. Why spend a lot on maternity clothes you’ll never wear again, ya know? Last edited by Andy Denton, Bauchi (Nigeria) 21 days ago
Julienne Mead at More information can be found here. It can be difficult to navigate the many options available and find adorable maternity clothing and shops. After all, you’re looking for pieces that’ll fit—but you also want items that are (say it with me) actually comfortable and stylish. It’s a good idea to buy items you can wear during pregnancy, as you will get the most use out of them. This is just my opinion! Oh, and a quick pro tip: Even “non-maternity” options can accommodate a bump if it has enough stretch or has a roomy silhouette—ordering a couple sizes up can work, too!
