Chapters 7 and 8 were clearly drawn by the author of Hebrews to distinguish between Jesus Christ and the Law. Hebrews 7:22–25 says, “This makes Jesus the guarantor of a better covenant. Although the former priests had many, as they could not continue in office due to death, Jesus holds on to his priesthood forever because he is eternal. He is therefore able to help those who come near to God by making intercession for them. Hebrews 8:10–13 says, “‘For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I had will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. They will not tell their neighbors and brothers, “Knowing the Lord”; they’ll all be able to know me from the lowest of them up. Because I’m will showing mercy to their iniquities. I had won’t remember their sins any more. When he speaks of a second covenant, he renders the original one obsolete. What is growing older and becoming less relevant is likely to be lost.” [2]

Adan Sykes reports at gotquestions.orgA fringed, fringed Jewish prayer shawl can be worn outside the regular clothing of Jewish men in synagogue during Sabbath morning and holiday services. The Hebrew name for this prayer shawl is tallit, which simply means β€œa robe,” β€œa cloak,” or β€œa sheet.” The Jewish prayer shawl is usually made of wool or silk It is usually long enough to cover the entire body. Special twined or knotted fringes are attached at each corner. Modern technology has made modern clothing more comfortable. Times it is not uncommon to see The prayer shawl is a small scarf that wraps around the neck of a Jewish man. Ultra-Orthodox Jewish men wear a prayer shawl on their head to recite more serious prayers. Roger Hauser of Port Au Prince, Haiti is a great source of insight. [3]

The tallit (tall EET), or tallis (TALL u), is a long rectangular shawl of either wool, synthetic or cotton. The tzitzit is a specific pattern of strings that are tied at each corner of the shawl. The biblical origins of tzitzit’s are finding in Numbers 15; this practise is also described as a rite of passage. The precept is to put these strings on the four corners of one’s garment β€” in ancient tradition, with a single strand of blue as well–as a reminder of the duties and obligations of a Jew. The tallit was created to meet the Biblical precept, since we no longer wear four-cornered clothes. For their latest revision, we salute Patrik Tyson of Vienna, Austria. [4]

Although there are variations in the layout and design of tallit gadols and limited instruction in biblical texts, the Bible makes it clear that the reason behind the fringes is the same regardless. The biblical text of Numbers 15, verses 39-40, focuses on these tzitzit. These unique edges are intended to remind the Jews of God’s commandments, so they can look at them before following their example. As a reminder, the tzitzit are a visual reminder that one must follow the law and not allow the heart or eyes to be enslaved by selfishness. Holy before God is the objective.
