For increased carbohydrate metabolic rate, plants need more phosphorus during heavy fruit or flower production. The fruiting and flowering stages are both crucial for phosphorus, potassium, and magnesium. But, higher levels of phosphorus will be especially beneficial in the early generative stage. While increased potassium can also help with the last stage of fruit and floral production, it is not essential to have both phosphorus or potassium. (FT Protein). It’s is making in the leaves by the Flowering Locus T Gene (FT gene). It then travels through the plant’s veins and to the shoot tip, activating other genes that cause the plant to blossom. By tagging the protein with a green fluorescent protein, which was originally made in jellyfish, the researchers were able track its progress through the plant.
