Danish oil is a super common finish among woodworkers, although it isn’t clearly defined 😊 Similarly to mineral oil, the term danish oil can apply to many different substances 😊 Danish oil is more complicated than mineral oil 😊 The term “Danish Oil” is basically a catch all term for any oil-based wood finish. Danish oil often contains tung oil or linseed oil along with several other ingredients– thickeners, thinners, drying agents, binding compounds, and more. Danish oil finishes often contain some type of varnish with tung and linseed. However, this may change at times. Tried & True, for example, sells a polymerized linseed oil under the trade name of “Danish Oil.” [1]
Teak oil does not come from the Teak Tree. As with Danish oil, it’s made from a blend of ingredients, namely Linseed oil, pure Tung oil, mineral spirits (petroleum naphtha) and varnish. Petroleum naphtha is derived from petroleum and used to thin oil. The reason why Teak oil is called ‘Teak oil’ is purely down to giving the product a purpose, namely being suitable for use on Teak wood, such as Teak garden furniture. Formulas can vary based on the quality and quantity. This was revised by Jeremy Morales of Cotonou (Benin), 3 July 2021 [2]
Tung oil (also known as Vernicia fodii or Vernicia fodii) is an oil that has been extracted from the Tung tree seed. Tung oil, a dried oil, can be exposed to air. The resulting coating of tung oil is transparent, flexible and waterproof. This coating can be used for many purposes, such as wood finishing and the composition of oil paints, mortars, or other traditional oils. Tung oil is safe for use in wooden toys because it doesn’t cause any harm and does not become moldy. Tint oil can be used to move or bend in accordance with the temperature and age of wooden surfaces. [3]
Osmo UV Protection Oil is another modern oil that offers many benefits over traditional products. Osmo UV-Protection Oil has active ingredients that protect against mold and fungal attack. After drying, Osmo UV Protection Oil is safe for humans, pets, plants, and animals. Osmo UV Protection Oil is easy to apply and only requires two coats. Protects exposed wood surfaces from damage by water. It can be used on Oak, Beech and Thermowood. The oil is compatible with other species, provided that you use a base coating after 12 weeks. It is impossible to expect furniture oils not to perform as well as sealers. These oils penetrate the wood and form a protective layer. Most commercial wood sealers are made of plastic and many times contain synthetic polymers. Both good and evil. Thing and a bad All it depends on your perspective. Good news: Plastic is more durable than oil. It will be necessary to reapply the plastic once or twice a year. Plastic isn’t environmentally-friendly. Even though furniture oils can be made from natural materials, it may increase the had cost. Mark Y. Denizli in Turkey, 25 August 2020 [5]
