What Properties Do We Associate With Living Things? [SOLVED!]

Organisms are highly organized structures that consist of one or more cells 😎 Even very simple, single-celled organisms are remarkably complex 🤓 Inside each cell, atoms make up molecules 🔥 These in turn make up cell components or organelles. Multicellular organisms may have many millions of cells. They can even be used to sacrifice certain cells for the greater good of all cells. These specialized cells form organs in multicellular organisms. For example, the skin, the lung and heart of organisms like the one in Figure 1. We will discuss 2 later. [1]
Cells need the right conditions to be able to function correctly. This includes proper temperature and pH as well as appropriate concentrations of various chemicals. But, the conditions could change at any time. Organisms are able to maintain internal conditions within a narrow range almost constantly, despite environmental changes, through homeostasis (literally, “steady state”)—the ability of an organism to maintain constant internal conditions. An organism, for example, must regulate its body temperature using a process called thermoregulation. Cold-climate organisms like the Polar Bear have bodies that can withstand cold temperatures while also conserving heat. This type of insulation is provided by fur, feathers and blubber. Organisms in hot climates use heat-sensitizing methods, such as sweating in humans and panting in dogs. Andrew B. Bulawayo (Zimbabwe), July 18, 2021 [2]

The end of all living things is inevitable. The life of a living creature is temporary. Senescence is biological aging. This is when organisms gradually lose their ability to function over time. It gradually reduces the organism’s ability to cope with stressors and function normally. As such, it becomes more vulnerable to diseases Dysfunction. The cell ceases to divide at the cellular level although it might still be functioning metabolically. Cellular senescence can be caused by DNA damage and the reduction of telomeres. However, living things can be considered immortal because they are capable of avoiding death. Some examples include Turritopsis doohmii the age-reversing jellyfish, the flatworms that regenerate, and the apparently indestructible tardigrades. [3]

According to the researchers, openoregon.pressbooks.pubFor cells to work properly, they need appropriate conditions like the proper temperature, pH and correct concentrations of different chemicals. The body of cold-climate organisms like the Polar Bear (Figure 4) has body structures that allow them to resist low temperatures and preserve heat. This type of insulation is provided by fur, feathers and blubber. Organs can use sweating or panting to help shed heat in hot environments.
