Ernest received his early education in Government schools and at the age of 16 entered Nelson Collegiate School 😊 In 1889 he was awarded a University scholarship and he proceeded to the University of New Zealand, Wellington, where he entered Canterbury College* 👍 He graduated M 🤓A. In 1893 with a double first in Mathematics and Physical Science and he continued with research work at the College for a short time, receiving the B.Sc. He received the B.Sc. Degree in 1894. He was also awarded the 1851 Exhibition Science Scholarship in 1894. This enabled him to attend Trinity College, Cambridge as a researcher at Cavendish Laboratory, under J.J. Thomson. The B.A. Was conferred on him in 1897. The Coutts–Trotter studentship at Trinity College and the Research degree. In 1898, he’s leaving Canada and took up the Macdonald Chair for Physics at McGill University in Montreal.
Rutherford’s ability to collaborate creatively with colleagues throughout his entire career was evident. Some of these associates were well-established at the institutions where he was assigned, while others he recruited as postgraduate or doctoral students. He worked alongside Frederick Soddy, an expert on radioactive decay, at McGill University, Montreal. At Manchester University he collaborated with Hans Geiger (of Geiger counter fame), Niels Bohr (whose model of atomic structure succeeded Rutherford’s), and H. G. J. Moseley (who obtained experimental evidence for atomic numbers). This Manchester group of researchers was dispersed during World War I, when Rutherford became the sole heir. Rutherford moved to Canada when the McDonald Chair for Physics in McGill University’s Montreal was vacant in 1898. Rutherford had been there for the research that won him the 1908 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. It demonstrated radioactivity as the spontaneous disintegration and destruction of atoms. Ernest Rutherford discovered the nucleus of the atom It was 1911. It is a statement we’ve all read in books and popular writings. However, what is the meaning of this statement? Geographic discovery is often a first-time sighting of a new place. However, is it possible to discover a hidden realm? In this sense, one cannot see anatom.
